Get Your Voice Heard: How to Shape Vancouver City Politics

Mon, October 7, 2019 5:45 PM - 7:45 PM UBC Vancouver Campus. Free. Do you want to have a say in how Vancouver City goes about creating a vibrant, sustainable, inclusive, and engaged community? Do you think it is important that elected leaders consult students and youth on their vision for Vancouver? This event will give you a roadmap to getting your voice heard, and an opportunity to shape Vancouver City’s online engagement platform. You will learn how you can participate in the decisions that Vancouver City makes, and how to have a say on the issues that matter most to you. Our guest, Andrea Reimer, will speak to what an engaged city looks like, how the City has worked to improve residents’ involvement in policy-making, and what your role is in holding elected representatives accountable. This will be followed with a World Café, co-facilitated with Check Your Head, to collect your suggestions, ideas, and feedback on how the City can use technology to expand its public engagement. This is a timely opportunity to shape how you would like to engage with Vancouver City as it is in the process of renewing its digital engagement strategy. About Andrea Reimer: Reimer is a former Vancouver city councillor, has been nominated four times in the #VanMag Top 50 Most Powerful People list, and is a champion of environmental, sustainability, First Nations, and public engagement issues. She is also an instructor at the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs, UBC.
